The Maurice was one of Benny Binion's places before he became the king of downtown Las Vegas. He ran craps games at the Maurice with his associates James Worsham and Herbert Noble. When police raided the Maurice in 1944, Benny decided to condemn the gambling there and moved the action elsewhere, inviting all the partners except Noble. This sparked the flame that would erupt into the Dallas Gambling Wars that pitted Binion against Noble. Years of bloodfeuding ended with Noble finally being assassinated and Binion forced to flee Texas for Las Vegas.
