At the end of the 19th century, the mayor of Pau decided to create public facilities in the Beaumont Park for gambling, shows, parties, etc. The Palace d´Hiver (Winter Palace) was designed in the Neo-Rococo style and also had two campaniles 35 meters high framing a palmarium of metal and glass of elliptical shape. The construction of the Palais d´Hiver plus Palmarium started on 1897. On
1899-11 was the inauguration of the Palace d´Hiver. On 1900 was created S.A.Palace d´Hiver de Pau, that started the management of Palais d´Hiver - the gambling started. We found gambling records at the Palais d'Hiver between the years 1910 and 1928, with disruption during World War I and adjacent years.
In 1927, the new mayor signed an agreement with the Société des Casinos de Cannes and Deauville for the exploitation of the Palais d´Hiver. The Beaumont Palace is transformed and the palmarium is destroyed for the construction of a large rectangular hall in a neoclassical style. On 1928 was created the Société des Hôtels et Casino de Pau. On 1928-12 was the inauguration of the Casino Municipal. |
