The gambling was allowed in the Algarve region, in the 70's, and the grant awarded to Sointal, which opened three casinos – Monte Gordo, Alvor and Vilamoura. Casino de Vilamoura opened in 1973. On August 1, 1991, the new building was opened to Casino de Vilamoura, built expressly for that purpose, with characteristic architecture of the region. Casino de Vilamoura continues to operate today in the same building, now owned by Solverde, a company that, along with three casinos in Algarve, owns also the Casino de Espinho and the Casino de Chaves
