| The Casino Municipal de Luchon was inaugurated August 15, 1880. Built in a 2nd Empire style, it was at the time one of the best in France and had a main body and two wings, with a facade of 100 meters. It included a superb theater, gambling rooms, halls, decorated in a Moorish and modern style.
The same evening it was the turn of the Napoleon III theater where an orchestra of sixty-three performers .
The Casino had a romantic four-hectare park.During the war of 1914-1918 it was affected to American troops.
Unfortunately came the economic crisis. A new contract was established between the City and the Societé Fermiere du Casino. Draconian economies were to be realized. The casino will be remodeled: the monumental loggia was demolished and the terraces closed by the glass roof in front, in a Art Deco style. June 29, 1929 took place the second inauguration of the casino, not as glitzy as the first.
On June 25, 1935 the theater hall is transformed into a talking cinema
There will be an interruption of the activity during the WWII.
The casino would then unfortunately decline, especially in recent years, despite the establishment of slot machines in 1991, and the efforts done. The drop in the number of guests, the change in clientele, the increase in tax deductions and taxes have certainly contributed to the first closure of May 24, 2011, and despite an incomplete recovery on 2013, the casino was closed due to bankruptcy.Judiciary settlement on 01.15.2014 |
