Parque da Curia
Curia, Portugal
Type: Land Based
Status: Closed

From 1902 Curia became one of the most elegant and attended of all portuguese spas. The spa had a casino with stunning concert halls, gaming and reading rooms, with gambling despite its prohibition. Curia was considered Temporary Gambling Zone, by Decree No. 14643 of December 3, 1927, being the minutes of the gambling contract, between the Government and Sociedade da Curia, published on August 31, 1928. Although the contract was valid for thirty years, the same was abandoned before twenty years, due to the decay of the spa. Thus, the 1958 legislation, fails to consider Curia as gambling area, nullifying it. The casino, also designated Casino do Parque, was operated by Bristol Club from Lisbon, with a common director – Mário de Freitas Ribeiro.
