| The Dragonara Casino is a 19th Century Palace built by the Marquis Scicluna as his Summer residence on a narrow peninsula of St Julians.
The Palace was converted into Malta's first Casino and was one of the initial projects aimed to position Malta as a Premier tourist destination. The Casino welcomed it's first patrons in1964 under the management of the Kursaal Company. The Dragonara Casino was privatized in 1999 and was operated by the French Hotel & Casino Group Barrieré until June 2010.
An international call for proposals was issued by the Government of Malta in May 2010. Following a selection process, the concession to manage and operate the Dragonara Casino was awarded to Dragonara Gaming Limited; a joint venture between Novomatic AG and Peninsula Gaming Group, a subsidiary of the Pinnacle Gaming Group.
The company has since invested over 14 Million Euros in state-of-the art gaming equipment and technology as well as in the restoration and refurbishment of the building. ( casino site) |
