The attribution of the HHL-mold "OWL CLUB" hot stamp chips is traced to Eastman's Illustrated Guide to California Card Room Gaming Chips & Checks (1998). "Fran's Card Room" operated inside the Owl Club in 1977, and "Betty's Card Room" in 1978.

The bar opened in the 1930s and is still open at that address as of 2023.
