Originally owned by Joe Zarola, who also owned the "Ports Inn", a night club that was previously at this address. In the mid-1970s, Raymond (Ray) Henderson took over control of the club. Around 1979, is was bought by Richard and Mary Laurence. Located in Kearny Mesa, which is a neighborhood in the City of San Diego.

It is possible that some of the chips used at the "Gold Nugget Club" in Sacramento, CA, were used in the San Diego club after the Sacramento club closed in 1980 (see chip note below).

Above advertisement from 11/30/1981 (San Diego Union).

Reportedly, C. W. Rice order cards indicate that 1000 of these chips were shipped in 1962 to the Gold Nugget Club in Sacramento, CA, which closed in 1980. The hot stamp on these HHL chips is identical to those on the small crown chips, and may indicate a connection between these two clubs.
