During the period of 1st World War , Lisbon became a city of fun and unruled pleasure. Some magnificent and luxurious casinos were opened. Several clubs were established down town, the most commercial and most social life area of the capital, some of which in luxurious palaces. The night clubs , with dancing, gambling, restaurant and shows, had great installations with smoking living rooms, party rooms, dancing rooms, several gambling rooms…even manicure and barber shops- everything the money could buy. This illicit activity was only possible with the connivance of the police department, which closed its eyes in Exchange of some special favours . This was only achieved in late 1927, with gambling regulations , defining specific gambling areas -thermal and beach zones and no longer in the cities. This magnificent club was installed at 89 Rua Eugénio dos Santos ( presently Rua das Portas de Santo Antão) between 1911 and 1920.
