Latitude 43 was a touristic complex designed by architect avant-garde Georges-Henri Pingusson in 1932, inserted into a site overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The building was built in six months, The original program is very comprehensive and includes, in addition to 110 hotel rooms a restaurant, a sports complex with swimming pools and tennis courts, a CASINO, shops and service buildings annexes . Opened on July 14, 1932, the hotel was only open for four seasons, before being declared bankrupt . During the Second World War, it was requisitioned by Italian and then the German Army.It served as headquartes for the U.S.Army in August 1944. It served from 1945 to 1947 as a rest center for former prisoners returning from the concentration camps. From 1948, the hotel has turned into an apartment condominium. |
