| The first cercle de jeux in Royan was created in 1880 by twenty-two shareholders in the halls of the Grand Hotel de l 'Europe. Competitor of the Grand Casino of Foncillon, it was closed in 1882, by the Mayor of Royan, a partisan of the casino, with the incredible argument that its members did not pay the quotas. The establishment was installed with luxury and good taste, and came to be frequented with assiduity by the aristocracy that came from holidays to Royan. It will be reopened on August 3, 1891 for a short time. |
