The Cercle de L'Union, private association founded in 1917 results from a combination of several other cercle: The Jockey Club founded in 1839, the Cercle du Divan founded in 1856, heir to the Cercle Bellecour founded in 1765 and Syllabus, literary cercle. The object of the cercle is to create a meeting place, enabling you to create relationships of conviviality and friendship, develop artistic and cultural activities, sports activities such as hunting, golf and tennis, organizing actions of distraction such as bridge, poker and tarot . Very restricted circle, its headquarters is located in the heart of Lyon, Place Bellecour, a building dating from the eighteenth century, with spacious and luxurious rooms. The Cercle offers its members halls for receptions, bar, restaurant, conference room, game room and reading room. The Cercles de Jeux are private clubs , where they are only allowed card games and multicolore- a mix of roulette and billiard, exclusive of these establishments. To operate gambling it is required a special permit from the Government, which needs to be renewed from time to time, usually 2 years. The activity of the gambling is controlled by Government .Anny breach of the law implies the termination or non-renewal of the license. The Cercle de L'Union is currently one of the few in France that has cercle gaming license.
