From the end of the 18th century, gambling worked in Aix . In June of 1806 gambling is authorized in Paris and in the thermal stations. In Aix gambling was granted by monopoly. In 1816 gambling is prohibited, and although to have continued to play, the same is only officially authorized in 1849. In 1823 a Cercle de Jeux was created in the Hotel Guilland (Hotel de la Poste) located in the Place Centrale (present Place Carnot) that happens to be the rendez vous of all the bathers. From this the idea of forming a society to found a "true" cercle is born. On April 20, 1824, a joint venture (50 shares of 250 livres) was created, Societe du Cercle du Chateau, which leased the castle of the Marquis d'Aix (Chateau d'Aix) to install the cercle. The Cercle du Chateau is inaugurated on July 29, 1824, with the presence of King Charles Fenix of Sardinia, and his wife the Queen Marie-Christine. In 1826 the cercle adopts the name Cercle Royal des Etrangers. The cercle occupied two floors - on the ground floor there was a café, a concert hall and a garden; on the first floor the ballroom, theater, library, reading room, billiard room and game room.In 1836 is prohibited the game. In 1848 the Societé du Cercle was created, inaugurating in 1849 the Grand Cercle of Aix les Bains, with gambling, which still stands today. On that date would be closed the Cercle du Chateau. The castle was bought in 1866 by the municipality, which installed there the City Hall.
