Valladolid, Spain
Type: Other
Status: Open
Open: 1844

Associated with the agricultural, industrial and commercial prosperity of Valladolid, they were created from sec. XIX various cultural and recreational societies. The one who achieved greater notoriety was the Circulo de Recreo that was founded in 1844. He has held since then several rented premises. In 1853 he has built a own building on Calle Duque de Victoria. The first owned casino installation was short-lived. The growth and importance of society required a building adapted to their size and worthy of its importance . The building, still occupied by the Circle, was opened in 1902. Initially the ground floor was occupied by shops and the remaining floors by Circulo facilities. In 1914 the ground floor is transformed into a social gathering rooms. In the other floors were situated luxurious facilities required for the casino functions - large ballroom and dances, library, gambling rooms, billiard room, bridge room, etc. The partners, with very restricted access, came from the high aristocracy, personalities of commerce, politics, industry and banks.
