Archena is a spa that dates back to Roman times, but it is from the mid-nineteenth century onwards that has a great development. Several hotels are built after 1858. With the creation of infrastructures, a great influx of bathers, members of the upper bourgeoisie and the nobility, begins. In 1898 the Casino is inaugurated to distract the bathers. The Casino organized dances and concerts and there the gambling worked. With the ban on gambling in Spain in 1923, the gambling ended. During the Civil War in the 1930's it was converted into barracks. In 1944 Archena takes a new development cycle. The Casino is nowadays a cafeteria snack bar, keeping open the ballroom where still dances, concerts, card games, etc. are held.
