One of the first cars brought into Egypt was the French Dion-Bouton, belonging to Prince Aziz Hassan. At the end of 1905, there were around 110 motorized vehicles in Cairo and 56 in Alexandria. The Royal Automobile Club of Egypt (R.A.C.E.) opened in April 1924, at No. 3 Chawarbi Street. The club was a very popular social club.
On May , 27, 1967, the Royal Automobile Club merged with Automobile and Touring Club of Egypt.
Someone says that the initiative of unifying both clubs came from the President Gamal Abdel Nasser. The President alleged that both clubs had overlapping competences, and therefore was better to unify them. |
