| Suez Canal was opened in 11.17.1869, after ten years of construction. Port Said was established in 1859.As in many other cities with influence of construction workers and sailors, must have existed immediately casinos and gambling rooms.The four-and-a-half miles of beachfront on the Mediterranean developed into a seaside resort to rival Alexandria, anchored by the new Casino Palace Hotel, opened in 1907 ( we think the casino could be open before that date). The building occupied prime real estate on the seafront beside the mouth of the Suez Canal. Guests would have been able to look out over the Mediterranean and watch the liners approaching and exiting the famous waterway.The owner was Silvio Simonini.The Casino Palace survived the 1956 battles , being used as a barracks by the invading British soldiers , but succumbed to developers who ripped it down in the 1970s, erecting a modern hotel in its place. |

" Voilá le Casino... l´Orchestre... the establishments of this kind abound in Port Said, …all casinos, alcazares, pleasure houses etc have adjoined a gambling room open all day, with a roulette similar to Monte Carlo ... the Greek croupier throws the ball in the roulette…"
