Became: Pete's 881 Club
881 4th Avenue
San Rafael, California
Type: Card Room
Status: Closed
Open: 1890, Close: c. 1970

Before the Golden Gate Bridge was built, gambling was an attraction that got San Franciscans to ferry over to Marin County to play poker legally. Gambling of any kind was not legal in SF until much later. The Carlo chips are assumed to be the first ones used at the club.

By 1940 the club was owned by Bob & Mel Lasky, until they sold it to A. P. (Pete) Pellolio in 1951. After having a stroke in 1988, Pete handed management of the club over to his son Randy. In 1989, the card room moved to 721 Lincoln Ave. Randy and Linda Pellolio assumed full ownership in 2008 (see "Became"; Pete's 881 Club).
