The U.S. Navy Club of America was established in 1938 as an association for men and women who had served in the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. Their chapter clubs were referred to as "ships". When it opened in 1947, the San Diego club was the only one on the West coast. The club had a licensed card room (see "Archive").

T. R. King sold 8,600 of these large crown chips in eight colors to Nate Rosenberg, Sunland Importing Co., 1311 5th Avenue, San Diego, California, between 1947 and 1948.
