Jake W. Katleman (1899 - 1950) was a prominent gambling operator. In 1931, he chartered a train to bring Hollywood elites from Los Angeles to Reno for the 4th of July. On the return trip it was raided, with two cars of gambling equipment and alcohol confiscated, and Katleman arrested. He co-owned "The Cove", an illegal club in Cathedral City, CA, and was the operator and principal owner of the "El Rancho Vegas" (LV, NV), until his sudden death in a car accident in 1950 (see "Archive").

Mason & Co. sold 500 brown "MSC" hot stamp chips to Jake W. Katleman, c/o Circle Auto Park, 619 S. Hill Street, CA on 11/23/1938.

A note on a Mason order card seems to indicate that these MSC chips in different colors were sold to the Muskogee Social Club (NY, NY) in 1930. It is possible that the pencil note is mistaken, and that different MSC font chips were sent there (see order card below).
